Time Series

Track activity patterns over time using ridgeline plots.

Overview​

The Time Series visualization shows activity levels across different categories (typically departments) over time, displayed as overlapping area charts.

Requirements​

  • A valid date/time column
  • A department/category column

Aggregation Periods​

Choose how to group your data:

  • Hourly: Activity by hour of day (cumulative across all days)
  • Weekday: Activity by day of week (Mon–Sun)
  • Daily: Activity by calendar day
  • Weekly: Activity by week
  • Monthly: Activity by month

Time Range​

The chart's date range is driven by the sidebar time range slider. Adjusting the slider updates the Time Series chart in real time, filtering data and adjusting the X axis to match the selected range.

Interpreting Results​

  • Peak heights: Higher peaks indicate more activity
  • Overlapping patterns: Compare activity across departments
  • Trends: Identify busy periods and seasonal patterns
