Sankey Chart
Sankey diagrams visualize flow and weighted relationships between categories.
Overview
The Sankey chart shows how values flow from source to target, with the width of connections representing the volume or weight of interactions.
When to Use
- Visualizing communication flow between departments
- Showing resource allocation across teams
- Displaying process flows with quantities
Configuration
Source & Target
Select categorical columns (e.g., Department, Team, Region) for the left and right sides of the diagram.
Department Column
Used for color-coding the flow bands.
Timeline Playback
Like the network graph, Sankey charts support time-based animation when a date column is configured. Timeline playback respects the sidebar time range slider — animation only covers the selected date range.
Interpreting Results
- Wider bands: More interactions/higher values
- Color coding: Identifies source category
- Hover tooltips: Show exact counts
